Ten people are feared lost while hiking on Gunung Tok Wan, Bukit Broga here, on Saturday morning.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director, Mohd Sani Harul, said they were reported missing at about 11.54 am.
"On receiving a phone call, the fire brigade rushed to the site and arrived about half an hour later.
"Until now, they still can't be traced and the search is still underway," he told Bernama,.
The search and rescue efforts are assisted by the police and the Civil Defence Department with the strength of at least 30 personnel.
Mohd Sani said the 10 people missing on Gunung Tok Wan comprised two groups of climbers, one group consisted of six male students from SMK Saujana Impian, Kajang.
The Form Four and Five students started climbing the mountain 'jungle trekking' at about 4 am, he told Bernama on Saturday.
"We received a call from the victims' cell phones at 11.55 am stating that they were lost. The first fire engine arrived at the scene at about 12.24 pm.
"Based on information, the students had stumbled upon another group of four adult male climbers who were also lost and they were all now waiting together for help to arrive," he said.
Mohd Sani said search and rescue operations involving security personnel, firefighters, the Civil Defence Department, Rela and the police was now underway but so far none of those lost have been brought down.
This was because the security forces were having difficulty following the the dark and slippery terrain due to the rain.
"We are trying to find the best way to rescue the victims, including seeking help from the Orang Asli. None of the climbers are injured, they are only tired and hungry," he said.
