The Customs Department seized 11 tonnes of firecrackers and fireworks throughout the country over the last two months said its director-general Datuk Seri Khazali Ahmad.
Khazali said the department carried out raids early because fireworks and firecrackers pose a danger to the people, especially children during festive seasons.
"Firecrackers and fireworks manufactured nowadays is so sophisticated that special kind of expertise is needed. We cannot just take these high risk explosives lightly.
"During festive seasons, especially Aidilfitri, people should not waste their money to buy firecrackers or fireworks. The risks and dangers involved are high," he told reporters after breaking fast with the Customs staff of Sabah.
The event was graced by Sabah Yang Dipertua's wife Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni, here Wednesday night.
