The scholars also suggested that the Prime Minister be given the opportunity to lead the country until the 15th General Election.
BASED on the reality of the country’s current political landscape, 115 PhD scholars from all 21 public universities (IPTAs), 4 private universities and colleges (IPTS) and the Institute of Teachers’ Education (IPG) are calling on the entire country to support the government led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The scholars also suggested that the Prime Minister be given the opportunity to lead the country until the 15th General Election in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Constitution.
The coalition of academics at the same time called on all parties to adhere to the Malaysian political system based on the sovereignty, constitutional supremacy and parliamentary democracy system.
They also call to stop any propaganda and efforts that could jeopardize political stability to ensure the well-being of the people and the nation's progress.
In a press statement circulated, all the academics also urged all parties to lift high human and religious values, implement good governance and ensure the social contract and the provisions of the Constitution, in particular our national identity based on Malay-Muslim identity, were always obeyed.
"We call on all political parties that form the government while officially joining the Perikatan Nasional to be registered to enable it to function more effectively in finding solutions to the problems of the people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic," it said.
At the same time, the group also called on political parties in the opposition bloc to formally join the coalition of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and form their own shadow cabinet to enable it to function more effectively in playing a healthy check and balance role on the current government.
On the aspect of preserving unity among the people, the academics called on the authorities to enforce existing laws and introduce new laws to penalize those who disrupt stability.
All the 115 PhD scholars consist of two Emeritus Professors, 21 Professors, 37 Associate Professors and 55 Senior Lecturers.
The group of scholars said the joint statement was voluntarily released by them.
"This media statement was made and collected voluntarily by all of us in just three days due to our high awareness that the voices of people like us can shape the direction of the nation in the face of critical times.
"It is our hope that our voices will be heard by all parties concerned and the public as we have hundreds of other Malaysian IPT PhD scholars backing our efforts without wanting to reveal their names," the group said.
