1,295 new cases, seven deaths due to COVID-19 - Dr Noor Hisham

KUALA LUMPUR:A total of 1,295 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours with the addition of seven more deaths.

Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said there were also 1,052 recovery cases, bringing the cumulative number of cases recovered to 72,733.

"We regret to inform that there is an increase of seven COVID-19 deaths today, bringing the cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia to 429, which is 0.49 per cent of the overall total number of cases," he said during a press conference here on Wednesday.

In the meantime, he said, active cases with COVID-19 infectivity has reached 14,751 cases.

He explained that 113 cases were being treated in the ICU, with 53 cases needing respiratory assistance.

Dr Noor Hisham said the MOH detected eight more new clusters -- Puncak Galaksi Cluster involving Kuala Selangor and Klang districts in Selangor, the Bukit Punai Cluster in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, the Permai Construction Site Cluster in Lembah Pantai and the Mahahari Construction Cluster Cluster in Titiwangsa in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.

Other new clusters are the Laut Construction Site Cluster in Lembah Pantai, Cheras and Kepong in the Federal Territory, Cahaya Mahsuri Cluster in Johor Bahru, Kota Tinggi and Pontian in Johor, Seri Tasik Cluster in Perak Tengah and Kinta in Perak and Inten Cluster in Kuantan, Pahang.

He added that Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 481, followed by Sabah (268 cases), the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (232 cases) and Johor (105 cases) while several other states recorded less than 100 cases.
