Kesemua 13 penuntut Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) yang masing-masing dibenarkan diikat jamin oleh mahkamah sehingga sebutan semula kes pertuduhan dengan sengaja menyebabkan cedera terhadap rakan seuniversiti mereka, Pegawai Kadet Laut Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain, dibenarkan menyambung semula pengajian di universiti itu.
Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh berkata keputusan itu diambil pihak UPNM bagi memberi peluang kepada penuntut berkenaan untuk menyambung pengajian mereka sehingga mahkamah membuat keputusan terhadap dakwaan membabitkan mereka.
"Tiga belas pelajar yang dibebaskan masih penuntut sah UPNM. Mereka berhak dilayan sebagai pelajar.
"Kesemua mereka akan dibantu kaunselor bagi mengatasi masalah gangguan emosi dan trauma sekiranya ada," katanya selepas menghadiri Majlis Iftar Semarak Kasih Majlis Profesor Negara (MPN) di sini hari ini.
Mangsa, Zulfarhan Osman, 21, meninggal dunia di Hospital Serdang pada 1 Jun lepas, dipercayai akibat didera selepas dituduh mencuri komputer riba milik rakan pada 22 Mei lalu.
Mangsa dilapor mengalami kesan melecur di bahagian dada, tangan dan kaki dipercayai akibat ditekap dengan seterika wap.
Berikutan kes itu, 13 penuntut terbabit yang kesemuanya berumur 21 tahun dihadapkan ke Mahkamah Majistret di sini pada 14 Jun lepas bagi menghadapi pertuduhan mengikut Seksyen 330 Kanun Keseksaan dibaca bersama Seksyen 34 kanun sama yang memperuntukkan hukuman penjara tujuh tahun dan denda jika sabit kesalahan.
Mahkamah membenarkan 13 tertuduh, masing-masing diikat jamin RM7,000 dengan seorang penjamin dan menetapkan 18 Julai untuk sebutan semula kes itu.
Berkaitan kes sama, selain mereka, lima lagi penuntut UPNM turut dihadapkan ke mahkamah sama atas pertuduhan membunuh Zulfarhan Osman mengikut Seksyen 302 Kanun Keseksaan dibaca bersama Seksyen 34 kanun sama yang memperuntukkan hukuman mati mandatori, jika sabit kesalahan.
Seorang lagi didakwa bersubahat bersama lima tertuduh membunuh Zulfarhan Osman di bawah Seksyen 109 Kanun Keseksaan dan dibaca bersama Seksyen 302 kanun sama, yang memperuntukkan hukuman serupa.
Mahkamah menetapkan 14 Ogos untuk sebutan semula kes itu membabitkan enam penuntut itu.
Idris menegaskan bahawa buli bukanlah suatu budaya bagi mana-mana penuntut universiti kerana ia boleh membawa kesan buruk sehingga meragut nyawa.
"Ia (buli) seharusnya tidak boleh berlaku di mana-mana pusat pengajian kerana gejala itu hanya berlaku di peringkat sekolah," katanya.
Terdahulu pada majlis itu, Idris melancarkan Buletin MPN (Pemikir Negara) yang merupakan cetusan idea para ilmuwan bertujuan menjayakan agenda pembangunan negara serta melaporkan aktiviti dan program golongan ilmuwan.
