13-year-old student drowns in pool

The joy of three students going for a weekend swim turned into a tragedy after one them drowned in a swimming pool at a club, here yesterday.

The incident happened at the Desa Dungun Golf Club on Saturday when the teenager, Tan Yi Hong, 13, went to the club with his family members around 6.10pm.

The victim's body was found 30 minutes later at the five-metre pool. He was a student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Omar, Dungun in Terengganu.

The victim was pulled from the water after he was seen struggling to stay afloat.

The emergency team from Dungun Hospital came a few minutes later to treat the victim, but he was already pronounced dead.

District police chief Supt Ahmad Zailani Yaacub said the body was sent to Dungun Hospital for post-mortem.
