15 months-old baby dies after being bitten by snake

A toddler was fatally bitten by a cobra while sleeping with her mother at the family home in Kampung Paya Badak, Seberang Temerloh, Sunday morning.

Puteri Mia Mazila a/p Ramesh, 15 months, died on the spot in the 8.30am incident.

Temerloh police deputy chief, Supt Zundin Mahmood said the 34-year-old woman was asleep with the victim in the front room of the house when she was awakened by her loud cries.

"Upon checking, the woman noticed bruises on Puteri Mia Mazila's leg, believed to have been caused by a snake bite.

"At that juncture, she saw a black cobra slithering out of the house," he said when contacted.

The victim's mother rushed to catch the snake and when she returned to the house, the toddler had succumbed to the snake bite.

A report was lodged at the Temerloh police station.
