A total of 150 7-Eleven premises in Perak will be equipped with closed circuit television camera (CCTV) known as 'Safecam' in an effort to reduce crime involving the 24-hour convenience store.
State Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department chief SAC T. Selvan said a warning poster would be put up at the premises on the installation of the Safecam.
"Posters with the Perak police hotline (05-2401999) and the headquarters operations room (05-2451222) will also be posted for the public to contact in the event of a crime," he said.
He spoke to reporters after witnessing the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between 7-Eleven Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Perak police here today.
Perak police was represented by Taiping police deputy chief Supt Ismail Che Isa while 7-Eleven Sdn Bhd by its state Operations manager Muhammad Khairi Mod Zain and Northern Region Operations manager Muhammad Nazim Madown.
In another development, Selvan said the state crime index between January and Dec 15 this year had decreased to 5,549 compared to 5,956 in the corresponding period last year. - BERNAMA
