Sixteen policemen of various ranks from four states were charged in court separately today with graft.
The Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) in a statement today said those charged included a deputy superintendent, two assistant superintendents and two inspectors, while the rest were personnel of lower ranks.
Eight of them were charged in the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur, four in Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court, three at the Shah Alam Sessions Court and one at the Sessions Court in Georgetown.
The Commission said no party was immune from investigations including law enforcement agencies if found involved in acts of corruption.
"Enforcement agencies are expected to protect the public from the threat of crime in addition to maintaining peace and order in the country," he said. -- BERNAMA
