170 flood victims in six villages in Kampar evacuated

One hundred and seventy people from six villages in Kampar, near here, were evacuated early morning on Thursday to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kampar after the villages were flooded.

Kampar police station chief, Mohd Yamin Naib said the flood occurred following continuous heavy rain from 2pm on Wednesday until night.

"The affected villages are Kampung Sahom, Kampung Sungai Salu, Kampung Malaya, Kampung Nyior, Kampung Pisang and Kampung Baru Kuala Dipang," he said in a statement on Thursday.

The 170 flood victims comprise 90 adults, 30 children and 50 senior citizens.

Mohd Yamin said police were still monitoring the flood situation in the affected villages.

On Wednesday night, Bernama found the flood water level in the affected areas to have reached three feet.

Before the relief centre was opened at SMK Kampar, the flood victims from Kampung Malaya were placed at the Jeram community hall.
