1MDB: The Auditor-General's interim report should be made public - Wan Azizah
WAN AZIZAH: If there indeed was no evidence of wrongdoing, why is the public prevented from reading the report?
The Auditor-General’s Interim Report regarding state investment company 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) should be made public immediately so as to straighten out the confusion among the people, urged Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
“It is unfair and unjustifiable to refer to the contents of the document which purportedly says there is no evidence of wrongdoing when the public cannot verify the authenticity of the statement,” she said in a statement issued today.
The Permatang Pauh MP was referring to a statement made by Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah who called for 1MDB critics to stop making unfounded allegations against the company when the interim report had found no evidence of wrongdoing.
Wan Azizah said, Ahmad Husni's statement did not clarify the matter and only added to the people's confusion.
“This is because the public were prevented from reading the report. How can the public conclude whether or not Ahmad Husni’s statement is true or false?
“The audit had been carried out to fully disclose the operations and management of 1MDB to the public. As such, I urge for the Auditor-General’s Interim Report to be made public immediately,” urged Wan Azizah.
She said, as this is only an interim report, the Auditor-General cannot yet make any decision regarding the matter.
“Due to the nature and extent of the scandal plaguing 1MDB which is greatly affecting the economy and investor sentiment, therefore the Auditor-General’s Interim Report should be made public now,” she said.
Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua had accused Ahmad Husni of lying when he said the interim report had showed no evidence of wrongdoing.
