1MDB: Dewan Rakyat rejects motion to establish Royal Commission of Inquiry

Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker, Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said, said that the company was currently being investigated by the Auditor General.

“The Auditor General is investigating the company and the report will be presented to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

“Now is a sessions debate and the Yang Berhormat himself and several others has already spoken about the matter.

“Let’s wait for the explanation from the Minister during his closing arguement,” said Mohamed Said during a debate session today.

Pandikar Amin in a letter to Datuk Mahfuz Omar (PAS-Pokok Sena) explained the reason why the motion was dismissed by the Dewan Rakyat.

Earlier PAC Auditor-General, Tan Sri Ambrin Buang said that the investigation over 1MDB will concentrate on its accounts since 2009 following allegations that it has never been audited.

Ambrin said that the company is alleged to have been involved in several dubious investments.

1MDB established in 2009 was a brainchild of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

However, recent scandals involving 1MDB received wide attention, particularly after several disclosures were made about certain investments such as the Cayman Islands and PetroSaudi International.

In the meantime, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar previously explained, that an investigation will only be conducted should any discrepancies be detected by the National Audit Department during its audit.
