Attorney-General Tan Sri Apandi Ali said further investigation into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) is necessary following the lack of evidence in certain areas.
He said the investigation papers on 1MDB had constantly been referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC), however, there were insufficient evidence in certain areas.
"When the investigation papers are referred to us, we go through them. We find a lack of evidence. So, we give instruction that the team should carry out investigation in certain areas. Those areas I cannot disclose. The investigation is still on.
"About 20 to 25 per cent of the investigation papers need to be reviewed," he said at a press conference here today.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said yesterday said that Apandi had instructed further investigation into 1MDB to be carried out and details of the case could not be revealed as it would jeopardise police efforts and also could be prejudicial to the case.
Azalina was responding to the Member of Parliament for Puchong, Gobind Singh Deo in a written reply at the Dewan Rakyat dated Oct 24.
On Sept 20, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the police had concluded their investigation into 1MDB.
Earlier, Apandi presented cash contributions to family members of 23 fire victims who perished in the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah fire in the federal capital on Sept 14. A total of RM32,500 was collected from AGC staff.
On sovereignty over Pedra Branca, Middle Rocks and South Ledge, Apandi said there was a case management by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in Hague on Sept 11.
"The court has been amenable to our application. There is going be a joint hearing, one application for revision and the other on interpretation of judgement. So it is going to be a joint trail
"The court also acceded to our request. We asked for more documents to be filed. Now, we are in the course of filling those documents. That is the latest," he said.
