1MDB: 'Let the task force investigate' - Hishammuddin
He was confident the issue will be solved soon as the task force comprised individuals with high calibre.
Defense Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein today urged all quarters to stay calm and not blow the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) allegation out of proportion.
He said the matter is best left with the special task force which has been set up to investigate the allegation.
Hishammuddin who is also UMNO vice-president said he was confident the issue will be solved soon as the task force comprised individuals with high calibre.
The task force, comprising the Attorney-General's Chambers; Bank Negara Malaysia; the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, is conducting a probe following allegations by WSJ that 1MDB funds had been channelled into the personal bank accounts of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"So I hope with the investigations carried out by the special task force, the public will stay calm and allow them to do their job," he told reporters at his ministry's breaking of fast function, Wednesday.
"Truth will prevail," he said.
The Sembrong MP also called on the public not to be influenced by baseless accusations.
Last Friday, WSJ published a report claiming that almost US$700 million of 1MDB funds had been channelled to personal bank accounts of the prime minister.
On the same day, the Prime Minister's Office dismissed the WSJ report and said it was a political sabotage to topple a democratically-elected prime minister.
1MDB also stated that it had never channelled funds to Najib.
Najib said his lawyers will decide on the next steps after obtaining confirmation from the paper.
