The live debate between Tony Pua and Arul Kanda Kandasamy will not solve the issues faced by 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), said Khairy Jamaluddin.
In a report by the Star, the Youth and Sports Minister said that he was more interested in conclusion of the investigation by the Public Account’s Committee (PAC).
Khairy said that the debate which will be held this month organised by RTM may be able to provide a clearer picture into the 1MDB case.
“Perhaps the debate will enlighten the public, but it cannot resolve the outstanding problems in the 1MDB case. The more important solution is through the PAC proceedings,” said Khairy .
Pua had earlier challenged Arul to a debate following a recent interview with the state development fund CEO at Bernama TV .
Arul had then said that he would accept the challenge with a condition – that Pua must first resign from PAC as the bi-partisan committee is currently investigating 1MDB to avoid conflict of interest.
Pua in reply to the condition said that the question was imposed as a was a way for Arul to escape from answering his questions.
Arul had however a few days later openly withdrawn his condition set for Pua to resign as PAC committee.
"I will meet Tony Pua for a live televised discussion or talk show or debate without any conditions," he told during a press conference on October 31.
