PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli today claimed that the refusal of the Finance Ministry to detail the amount of principal and interest payment for each debt or bonds of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) is alarming.
Rafizi, who is also PKR secretary-general, said this after receiving a written reply to his question from the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also Finance Minister.
"1MDB debt payments amounting to RM2 billion (in February 2015) to RHB and Maybank was reportedly organised by a leading businessman. Until now, we do not know the terms and repayment details to the corporate leader for his assistance,” Rafizi said, in a statement.
According to Rafizi, who is the Pandan MP, when the cabinet approved an allocation of RM950 million in standby credit in March 2015, the approval was made around the same time during an interest payment made in a similar amount.
"The sale of land by 1MDB to Tabung Haji was made in the same period of the interest payment totaling to similar amount.
"It is reasonable for the people to be informed of the list of principal and interest payments made by 1MDB starting from January 2015 so that the speculation that public funds are being injected to pay 1MDB debts can be clarified,” he said.
Rafizi also claimed that Finance Ministry reasons that the financial statements for 2015 was incomplete is unacceptable and unreasonable.
"For every financial year, auditors will confirm the total the principal and interest payment needed to be paid by 1MDB from that financial year until it is settled.
"This means that that audit in 2014 has confirmed the details of the principal and interest payment made in 2014 financial year until the debt is settled,” he said.
Rafizi added that the Finance Minister may instruct 1MDB to refer to the 2014 financial statement and provide the details without waiting for the 2015 statement.
