1Malaysia Development Berhad has slammed the Wall Street Journal for repeating "disproven allegations".
It was responding to a WSJ article which claimed that more than US$1 billion was deposited into the accounts of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and that "much of it" came from 1MDB.
In a statement here today, 1MDB said it has consistently maintained that it had not deposited any funds into the accounts of the Prime Minister.
"This has been reiterated by multiple lawful authorities, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Malaysian Attorney General, and various reputable international publications who have confirmed that these funds came from Saudi Arabia.
"Despite this, the Wall Street Journal continues to repeat the same disproven allegations," 1MDB said.
The statement said WSJ offered no conclusive evidence to support its allegations while continuing to attack with information it claimed to have obtained from unnamed and anonymous sources.
This reliance on anonymous sources, who may or may not exist, betrayed WSJ's "lack of basic journalistic standards" and also showed that the publication had lost "all semblance of balanced reporting", 1MDB said.
