1MDB told to assist investigation by special task force

1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) must cooperate and assist the Task Force which is conducting an inquiry into the strategic development company, said MCA vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.

She said everyone from 1MDB should cooperate with the task force by providing documents and materials to facilitate investigations.

"Whenever anybody accuses you and if you did nothing wrong, then you should allow investigation to take place to prove you are innocent," she said after officiating the Penang MCA new members orientation, here today.

Last Friday, The Wall Street Journal published a report claiming that almost US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) of funds from the government investment company, 1MDB was channelled to the personal bank accounts of the prime minister.

Last Tuesday, Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail, Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Inspector-general of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed announced the formation of the special task force to investigate the allegations.

Meanwhile, Chew, who is also the Penang MCA chairman, said MCA members should monitor the crisis between DAP and PAS closely in order for them to know how to respond when needed.

She said it was nothing new between them and it was like a love triangle with the parties involved adopting differing principles, policies and ideals.

"What we should do now is strengthen our own party to regain the people's confidence as we gear up for the next general election," she said.

Earlier, the PAS Syura Council officially decided to uphold the decision of its muktamar (general assembly) to sever ties with DAP, after a month-long drama that has put Pakatan Rakyat’s status as a coalition in limbo.
