Perlis mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has commended Bank Negara Malaysia governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz for her stand on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
In his Facebook post, Mohd Asri described what Zeti was doing as a big 'jihad'.

Semoga Allah memberi pahala yang besar kepada Gabenor Bank Negara yang berusaha menyelamatkan negara dari para pengkhianat dan penjenayah. Itu adalah jihad yang besar.

On Friday, BNM issued a directive to the 1MDB to repatriate its investments abroad totaling US1.83 billion.
In a statement, BNM revealed it had revoked three permissions granted to the strategic investment fund under the Exchange Control Act 1953 (ECA), to make the investments abroad.
BNM has also ordered 1MDB to submit a plan on the repatriation of these funds.
This came a day after the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) cleared 1MDB officials of making a false statement which was the focus of a Bank Negara probe.
BNM had also recommended to the AGC to initiate criminal prosecution against 1MDB for breaches under the Exchange Control Act 1953 (ECA) for the reasons of "… inaccurate or without complete disclosure of material information …".
1MDB which acknowledged the BNM's right to revoke earlier permissions said it will continue to cooperate and engage with the BNM, to address their concerns.
