A total of 2,300 cloned cars were seized by the Road Transport Department (RTD) nationwide from 2016 until July this year, said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi.

However, he was confident that the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system to be implemented in the country soon would help solve the problem which he described as worrying.

"This illegal activity will be curbed but we advise the public to be careful when they are offered attractive deals to own these cars," he told a press conference after attending an RTD Aidilfitri gathering, here, Thursday.

Abdul Aziz said based on information from RTD, most of the foreign cloned cars which were rare in the local market, were readily available in Kelantan and Johor.

On the liberalisation of motor vehicle insurance which took effect on July 1, Abdul Aziz said the move could educate the public to be more careful and to behave in a more courteous manner on the road.

He said with the liberalisation, drivers would ensure that they have a clean record and would be more careful to avoid accidents and having to pay high premium rates.
