ANKARA: The 2024 Argentina Moto GP was cancelled Wednesday due to the economic crisis in the country, Anadolu Agency (AA) quoted Moto GP as saying in a statement.
"The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports confirm the cancellation of the 2024 Argentina GP. Due to the current circumstances in Argentina, the Promoter of the event has communicated that it is currently unable to guarantee the services required for the Grand Prix to take place in 2024 at MotoGP standards," said the statement.
The race was due to take place on April 7 in the city of Termas de Rio Hondo in Argentina's north.
"This event will not be replaced on the 2024 calendar. MotoGP hopes to return to race at Termas de Rio Hondo in 2025," it added.
Last week, thousands of workers in Argentina staged a general strike in the capital Buenos Aires and other regions of the country to protest the tough economic reforms introduced by President Javier Milei.
According to figures released by state statistics authority INDEC in January, Argentina's annual inflation soared to 211.4 per cent in 2023.
