17 men and four women have been rescued after they were stranded following a water surge incident while at the Sungai Chiling area, Kuala Kubu Bharu late Sunday.
Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Department chief, Kamil Jamadan said, all the victims were rescued and taken out of the area at 2am Monday.
“We received a distress call at 6.58pm and rushed to the scene. The search and rescue (SAR) team arrived at the site at 7.35pm.
“Initially we received information that 15 people were stranded but we later found six more people stranded in the area,” Kamil said when contacted by Astro AWANI today.
Kamil said, the victims consisted of Pakistanis and Iranians who were said to be on a hill-climbing activity at the location when the incident took place.
“The victims had wanted to descend from the area but were stranded after the area around the waterfall had been inundated with water. They then called for help,” Kamil said.
He added 21 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) and Sungai Chiling management rushed to the scene to assist in rescue efforts.
The SAR team were forced to wait for the waters to recede before carrying out rescue efforts yesterday.
