22 Muslims detained for consuming alcohol during fasting month
The Penang Islamic Affairs Department (JAIPP) detained 22 Muslims, including nine women, for consuming alcohol at entertainment outlets in Seberang Jaya and Perai, during a pre-dawn raid here, this morning. JAIPP enforcement chief Khairul Azman Azizan said all 22 who were detained during an operation carried out from 12.30am to 3am, were between 22 and 44 years-old. "Some tried to escape after realising the presence of our officers but we managed to corner them. Most of them were under the influence of alcohol," he told reporters, here, today. Khairul said the nine women who were detained worked as guest relations officers (GRO) at the two premises that was inspected.
