A total of 268 illegal immigrants arrested during the 'Op Ikrar' operation conducted in several settlements in Dengkil, Selangor, early Wednesday.
During the operation, which begun at 12.15 am, five illegal settlements, comprise more than 50 rooms, were inspected by 178 personnel from the Immigration Department, the National Registration Department and the General Operations Force.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Sri Mustafar Ali said those arrested, aged between 20 and 40, were from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand.
"They are suspected of staying illegally in the area because they wanted to hide from law enforcers. Among the offences committed include not having valid identification documents and overstaying," he said in a statement.
Mustafar said the department would not compromise with foreigners living illegally in the country and would remain committed in carrying out such an operation to avert multiple chains of other social problems stemming from the illegals. -- Bernama
