Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Government has approved another 33 Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) outlets.
He said the 33 outlets would add on to the 57 outlets that were approved in Budget 2013 to be built in East Malaysia, bringing the total number of new outlets to 90, for 2013.
"We approved only new outlets in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan for 2013, but due to demand, the Prime Minister agreed for 33 new outlets to be opened in Peninsula Malaysia," said Ismail Sabri after opening a one day programme with clients organised by Marang Petronas and the Ministry.
"The government had already opened 85 KR1M in the Peninsula, namely 25 in 2011 and 60 more in 2012 at a cost of RM40 million. Locations for the 33 KR1M have been identified," he said.
He added that for the 57 KR1M in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, the government had allocated RM87 million. Setting up each KR1M in East Malaysia would cost about RM1 million to RM1.5 million while the cost of setting up a KR1M in the Peninsula would cost about RM500,000.
