CONSUMERS who purchased an Acer device from the online site between May 12, 2015 and April 28, 2016, are at risk of having had their credit card information stolen.
In a letter to California's attorney general, the Taiwanese company said they identified a security issue which involved unauthorized access to customer information -- credit carding number, name, address, expiration date and three-digit security codes -- by a third party.
The security breach is estimated to have affected 34,500 customers in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico, all of whom have been sent letters alerting them to the potential hack, reports ZDNet.
Customers who suspect cases of identity theft or fraud are instructed to file a police report.
