A total of 358 cases were reported to the state Consumer Claims Tribunal from January until today.
State Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said from the number a total of 259 cases had been settled.
The highest complaints involved the wedding planner fraud with 31 cases and furniture purchase with 28 cases, he said.
"The losses estimated for wedding planner fraud cases stood at between RM200,000 and RM300,000. Most cases involved the failure of service providers to provide service packages ordered by customers.
"In the case of furniture purchase, the majority of consumers complained of being deceived by furniture companies where they did not get the goods despite having paid the full price of furniture which cost thousands of ringgit," he told reporters after chairing a coordination meeting on the 2017 Mega Muafakat Johor Carnival, here today.
Meanwhile he said 50,000 visitors were expected to attend the 2017 Mega Muafakat Johor Carnival which would be held from Oct 12 until 14, in front of Dato' Abdul Rahman Andak Building, Kota Iskandar.
Tee said the carnival, which will be participated by 50 vendors, was targeting RM500,000 in sale value.-- BERNAMA
