4 PKFZ Customs personnel deny accepting bribes

Four Customs assistant superintendents based at the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) claimed trial in the Sessions Court here today to accepting bribes totaling RM129,400.
Nor Shafik Shamsinor, 29, is accused on three charges of accepting RM6,600 as an inducement not to inspect liquor for which duty had not been paid, that were smuggled out of the PKFZ by lorries owned by a Malaysian individual.
He allegedly committed the offences at the PKFZ Northport terminal between April and July this year.
Mohd Izwan Ramli, 31, is accused of accepting RM2,000 for a similar offence allegedly committed at the same place between May 26 and May 30 this year.
Che Zulkifli Che Ismail, 29, is accused on three counts of accepting a total of RM10,000 between May and July this year.
He allegedly committed the offences at the PKFZ Northport terminal; near the Kampung Pulau road junction and along Jalan Uda Habib, Pulau Indah, Klang.
Azahar Zainuddin, 32, is accused on five counts of accepting a total of RM110,800, at Restoran Berkat Restu, Persiaran Masjid Sultan, Pulau Indah, Klang and PKFZ main terminal, Klang between April and July.
Judge Noradidah Ahmad set bail at M8,000 with one surety for Nor Shafik; RM5,000 with one surety for Mohd Izwan, and RM10,000 with one surety each, for Che Zulkifli and Azahar.
The court set Oct 30 for re mention and also ordered their passports to be temporarily impounded.
Deputy public prosecutor Husmarudin Husin from the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission conducted the prosecution, while Azahar was represented by counsel Ridha Abdah Subri.
The rest of the accused were unrepresented.
