41 groups participate in Padang Rengas Panjut Festival

In conjunction with the Hari Raya celebration, 41 groups in the Padang Rengas parliament constituency participated in a panjut (oil lamp) competition, from yesterday until July 3.

Padang Rengas UMNO deputy chief Datuk Zainun Mat Noor, who is also Chenderoh state assemblyman, said the four themes for the competition were 'my village', 'historical Building', 'Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri' and the 'Malaysian culture'.

"The festival is held in a gotong-rotong with a diverse display of oil lamp designs and vibrant colours," he told reporters after launching the festival on behalf of Culture and Tourism Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

Meanwhile, Padang Rengas UMNO Youth chief Mohd Arif Abdul Majid, who is also chairman of the competition, said the winners would be announced on July 3 and the prizes presentation by Mohamed Nazri in a Hari Raya function on July 16.
