A total of 42,683 dengue cases were reported nationwide between January to April 24 this year, an increase of 4,165 cases from 38,517 cases recorded in the corresponding period last year.

He said the ministry had also taken various actions against those found to have neglected the aspect of cleanliness to the extent of causing the spread of dengue cases in the country.
"According to our record, between January and Feb 29 this year, 939,249 premises have been inspected and 3,260 compound fines worth RM1.63 million were issued. A total of 353 cases have been brought to court with fines totalling RM237,100."
He said this when winding up the debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address at the Dewan Negara sitting here today.
Dr Hilmi said the ministry had also received the cooperation from numerous government ministries and agencies in the implementation of the nationwide Massive Anti-Aedes Enforcement Operation, which began on April 11.
"I have also emphasised the importance of the roles played by each individual and household in combating dengue. They only have to spend at least 10 minutes a week to check their houses' interior and exterior to prevent it from becoming a breeding ground for aedes mosquitoes, hence reduce the number of dengue cases," he added.
