KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 57 federal level government agencies have gone cashless as of July 2021, said MyDIGITAL Corporation chief executive officer Fabian Bigar.
Citing the findings from a report by the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit, he said all ministries and agencies have targeted to provide cashless payment options by this year, although this has yet to be adopted at the state level.
"These are the figures from the federal level as of July last year. By now, we expect (it will be) higher than that," he said during a session entitled 'Driving the National Digital Economy Agenda: A Catalyst and Agent for Change' at the virtual MyFintech Week 2022 today.
Meanwhile, Bigar also encouraged the private sector to work with the government to achieve MyDIGITAL's objectives.
The blueprint envisions Malaysia leading the region's digital economy.
Its objectives are to encourage industry players to become creators, users and adopters of innovative business models; to harness human capital to thrive in the digital economy; and to nurture an integrated ecosystem that allows society to embrace the digital economy.
"I do hope to see greater participation from the private sector. Come to us and let's see how we can all contribute to this," said Bigar, who is also the chief executive officer of the Strategic Change Management Office (MyDIGITAL) under the Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister's Department.
On the latest update on the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint and National 4IR Policy (Fourth Industrial Revolution), he said Phase 1 (2021-2022) forms the foundation of digital adoption and involves 58 initiatives, of which three were completed last year, and the rest to be completed by year-end.
