57 new cases, three more deaths from COVID-19

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has recorded 57 new positive cases of COVID-19 in the country as of noon today -- the fifth consecutive day Malaysia has maintained the two-digit new daily cases.
It brings the total number of positive cases to 5,482.
Health director-general, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said of the total, 18 were cases of imports from Malaysians returning from overseas, while 39 were domestic cases.
He said the total number of cases recovered and allowed to be discharged was 54, thus seeing a cumulative increase in the number of cured patients to 3,349 cases or 61.1 per cent.
"Therefore, the total number of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity is 2,041 cases. They have been isolated and treated.
"To date, a total of 43 cases of COVID-19 are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU). Of these, 27 are needing respiratory help," he said at a press conference here today.
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said three more deaths were recorded as a result of COVID-19, bringing the cumulative number of deaths in the country to 92 cases or 1.68 per cent of the total number of cases.
The latest death was reported 24 hours after Malaysia did not record any deaths from the pandemic.
"The 90th death (Case 2,050) was a 72-year-old Malaysian woman with a history of diabetes and hypertension. She was the mother of Case 2,053 (who also had the same symptoms).
"She was hospitalized at the Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor on March 27 and was pronounced dead on April 20 at 1.47 pm.
"The 91st death (Case 4,090) was a 69-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease. He was treated at the Sarawak General Hospital on April 6 and was pronounced dead on April 21 at 2.28 am.
"The 92nd death (Case 5,332) was a 92-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes, hypertension and dementia. He has a history of close contact with the COVID-19 positive of Case 4,711.
"He was hospitalized at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on April 8 and was pronounced dead on April 21 at 1.30 am," he said.
