It has become concurrently easier and more challenging than ever to pursue a career solely based on photography. But there is one thing that can’t be bought or no app can impart you, and that is having a photographer’s eye. Yes, it is easier to generate and share content therefore harder to stand out and it is hard to distinguish a great photographer from just an unverifiable trend-setter or wannabe.
The individuals we picked capture photos that covey an emotion through artistic self-portraits, landscapes, or fashion that play with light, shadows and environment. Each picture captures a moment in time that draws you, the viewer in with expertly-crafted focusing (or blurring). Some even highlight subject matters that are often creative interpretations of daily life or dreamy recollections – real or imagined. Here are some young, talented individuals in Malaysia that we believe have worked very hard to prove that they’ve got what it takes to “make it” and go further in the industry. YS Ting - @poopeson YS Ting absolutely has a distinctive almost otherworldly technique of taking pictures: high contrast lighting scenes, faded images, and interesting perspectives. He takes pictures of everything from food to live performances and even the occasional fashion/lifestyle photoshoots. Jeremy Teo - @jeremyteo83 If vast city skylines, immense oceans and lush islands are your thing, Teo has the perfect images for you. He focuses his lens on other elements of the human experience, with a series of beautifully captured scenic locations and abandoned spaces. Adrian Yap - @adrianyap.co Adrian Yap is known for his short documentaries and films, often his photographs are inspired by his travels abroad, the people he has met, foreign exotic food and landscapes. Yap documents stories, not photographs – freezing special moments and placing them in photographs for us, the viewer to re-experience again. Fadzlishah - @fahimfadz A trained cinematographer and editor under the wings of Luey Motion Lab, he has directed a few music videos and has post-edited an award-winning music video. Fahimfadz channels his thoughts and feelings into something more tangible, his photographs. With a mix of artistic editing and moody lighting, his pictures capture imagination and wonder even with his black and white portraits, capturing a person’s essence with a single shot.

Sean Jesudasan - @seanjesudasan Jesudasan has unquestionably mastered the art of storytelling, and his photographs seem like a natural extension of himself. He captures stories that often go untold, and architectural images with larger-than-life point of views. What we love is that his photography takes you to another world, with dreamy like atmosphere and has incredible vision and you can see that in every one of his photos.

Bryan Alexander Lim - @bryzoid The beauty is in the details, and Bryzoid gets that. His photographs are usually portraits and street-based photography with a dash of surrealism. You can evidently tell that a lot of his works are influenced by his emotions and expressions, in trying to re-enact a concept that goes through his mind. This cool cat is taking risks and is honest, which is what we need in the creative scene.
