Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s return from a brief Umrah trip was welcomed by around 60 Malay non-governmental organisation members at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah airport in Subang on Friday.
Dr Mahathir and his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali arrived at the airport at approximately 4pm.
The turnout by the various NGO members was a gesture of solidarity to the country’s former leader who has been vocal over the 1MBD issue.
Also present at the airport were Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali, former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim and former Batu Kawan UMNO deputy chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan.
On Thrusday, a short messaging system (SMS) message went viral, urging people to show their support during Dr Mahathir’s return to the country.
On his arrival, Dr Mahathir did not issue any statement but shook hands with his supporters.
