Sixty-one flood victims from 12 families in two villages in Pontian were evacuated last night following a flash flood.
Pontian district officer Kamarudin Abdullah said the victims from Kampung Makam, Permas and Kampung Parit Abdul Rahman, were being sheltered at Sekolah Kebangsaan Penerok, Permas and Kompleks Penghulu Benut.
"The flood has subsided but they are not allowed to return home yet as the water level might rise and cause another flood," he said when contacted today.
Thirty-eight people from nine families are presently staying at the relief centre at SK Penerok while 23 people from three families, at Kompleks Penghulu Benut.
