A total of 6,847 buses were inspected at the bus depots and major terminals throughout the country during the 'Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri' (HRA) 2016 which ended Wednesday.
The Road Transport Department (RTD) said that of the total, 50 buses failed the technical inspection and were not allowed to operate until the technical weaknesses on the buses were rectified.
"The RTD constantly gives priority to the maintenance of the driver management system for public service vehicles so that it is at the best level.
"Technical inspections at the depots and bus terminals are carried out to ensure safety of the passengers using public transportation is always assured," it said in a statement on Thursday.
It added that the vehicles must undergo regular inspections twice annually at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom).
