7 motorcycles gutted, 6 damaged in parking lot fire in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Seven motorcycles were burnt while six others were damaged in a fire incident at the parking lot of the Pinang Emas Apartment in Batu Ferringhi, near here, early this morning.
Bagan Jermal Fire and Rescue Station chief Hassan Hussain said a team was rushed to the scene when the station was alerted of the fire at 3.26 am.
"As soon as the fire brigade arrived, the residents there also helped to put out the fire which also caused minor damage to a Perodua Myvi car. We managed to control the fire from spreading.
"Tens of thousands of ringgit were lost in the fire but no one was injured and the fire was completely extinguished at 4.45 am," he said when contacted today.
Meanwhile, Northeast district police chief ACP Soffian Santong said when police arrived at the scene, the fire was raging at the apartment's parking area.
Soffian said the investigation revealed that the seven motorcycles that were burnt were four Honda EX5s and one each of a Yamaha LC 135, Honda C100 and Honda Dash while the six damaged motorcycles were three Honda EX5s, and one each of a Suzuki Nex, Yamaha Ego and Yamaha RXZ.
He said police are still investigating the cause of the fire and urged the public with information on the incident to report to the police.
