Seven people who were detained by the police on Monday, following the discovery of vape liquid suspected to contain ganja as well as ganja 'biscuits' have been remanded for a week.
The suspects, including two couples were picked up in raids at Banting, Ampang and Kelana Jaya.
Narcotics Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the two couples were detained at Banting and Ampang, while the rest comprising two men and a woman, were nabbed in Kelana Jaya, along with a machine to process ganja.
The seven under detention were investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carried the mandatory death penalty upon conviction, he said.
He said this in a press conference at the Bukit Aman Federal Police Headquarters here Wednesday.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar on Tuesday had announced the seizure of 214 vape liquid bottles and ganja 'biscuits' in an operation conducted by Bukit Aman's Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING).
On the seized vape liquid bottles, Mohd Mokhtar explained they contained a total of 3,210ml of vape liquid, adding that also seized were a jar of ganja 'biscuits', as well as several slabs and dried leaves believed to be ganja, weighing 7.1kg.
He said the police believed the subtances were marketed and sold via social media and delivered through courier services.
"Action will be taken against anyone who uses e-cigarette and vape liquid containing any type of drug," he added.
Meanwhile, Mohd Mokhtar said 171,831 people, including 6,524 foreigners were arrested between Jan 1 and Dec 6 for drug-related offences, with seizures totalling RM233 million.
