The ongoing hot weather for almost two months now has resulted in reduced fish landing for mackerel in Kedah by 70 per cent, said State Women's Development, Agriculture and Agro-based and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Suraya Yaacob.
She said the phenomenon also saw the price of the fish in Kedah to reach over RM20 per kilogramme.
"Hot weather has caused these fish to stay in deep water for cooling and only bigger boats such as the Type C boats have the capacity to catch these fish," she told reporters after officiating the Kuala Tebengau Jetty and Fishermen's Market in Kuala Kedah today. - BERNAMA
