Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique, however, said the government had no desire to cancel the registration of the inactive KRT but would endeavour to reactivate them.

"We don't cancel the registration of inactive KRT, but our approach is to conduct selections of new chairmen and committee members so they become active again.

"The chairmen and committee members are not decided by ministers or Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN), but selections are made by the local communities.

"So, the District Unity Officer responsible must raise awareness in the local community on the matter," she told a media conference at the 2022 KRT grant presentation for Prosperous Community, the Malaysian Family at the Kedah and Perlis state level here today.

Halimah said a KRT was set up by involving about 1,000 houses to give service to the local community and the committee managing it must involve all races present in an area.

She said KRT must always be active in carrying out their duties not only in implementing certain programmes but also in resolving various issues in a community.

Meanwhile, she said the ministry would conduct a study to determine the level of interest in teaching and problems faced by Tabika Perpaduan (Unity Nursery) teachers throughout the country.

The study would enable steps to be taken to create a more conducive teaching and learning environment at Tabika Perpaduan, she said.

Halimah was commenting on the action of a mother who uploaded a post on Facebook complaining about the attitude of a Tabika Perpaduan teacher in Hulu Langat, Selangor.

At the ceremony, 474 KRT from among 502 which were active in Kedah received a total of RM2.8 million in grants while 138 active KRT in Perlis received grants totalling RM828,000.
