Former Youth PAS Central Exco, Zulhazmi Shariff proposed that Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang should not be nominated as president at the party election which will be held middle of the year.
Zulhazmi suggested Abdul Hadi to replace Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat who has been reported unwell as Mursyidul Am of PAS.
“I nominate Abdul Hadi to step down as President as he now sits in the Syura Council, the highest institution within PAS.
“Why would someone who is already on the highest institution want us (members and PAS representatives) to hold a lower-ranking position when we should give him a highest post.
“
Abdul Hadi can take over Nik Aziz’s responsibilities as he is ill. Abdul Hadi deserves to be PAS Mursyidul Am as his knowledge and prominence are world-renowned that earned him world’s spiritual vice president,” he said, when contacted by Astro AWANI.
Zulhazmi also proposed that PAS leaders who hold positions in the PAS Syura Council not to be nominated and accept any nominations within PAS Central committee.
Although PAS constitution permits its leaders to be in the Syura Council and hold positions in PAS Central Committee, his views are based on power discrimination principles.
“We take the example of the judiciary system, if you’re already a judge in Federal Court, he wants to be magistrate and would like a seating at the Court of Appeal.
“It is similar scenario, if you have been elected the Prime Minister, you can’t have the same candidate as Menteri Besar or District Officer, his roles should rightfully be given to the others,” he added.
His concern is permissible especially in avoiding any conflicts of interest if a leader who holds a position in the Syura Council and PAS Central Committee.
Apart from that, Zulhazmi also said, he has proposed that more PAS leaders to be placed at the forefront and not just dependent of a certain leader.
“If there is PAS Central Committee in the Syura Council, then the individual at State level becomes commissioner doesn’t depend on a certain leader.
“If at all levels – Central, State and Syura Council – you see the same individual, that leaves one pondering if there is no one else eligible?
“It is better to give the opportunity to other people, if you’re placed at the Syura Council, it’s pointless to be too modest to take responsibilities at PAS Central or State level,” he explained.
PAS is expected to hold party elections for the 2015-2017 terms in the middle of the year. All eyes are set on Abdul Hadi whether or not he will retain his present role or otherwise.
