About 90,000 firearm licences issued until Dec 31, 2015 - KDN
Home Ministry said 89,771 firearm licences were issued by the ministry until Dec 31, 2015.
The Dewan Rakyat was informed by the Home Ministry (KDN) that 89,771 firearm licences were issued by the ministry until Dec 31, 2015.
The ministry in a written reply to the Dewan Rakyat said 12,917 licences were for pistol, Revolver (1,789), Rifle (2,243), Shotgun (63,145) Pump gun (7,731) and 1,946 for others like stun gun, spear gun, starters, etc.
The ministry in a reply to a question from Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Taiping) said the police force had taken several steps to prevent the smuggling of dangerous weapons into the country or out of the country.
The ministry through the security forces are always on alert at all entry points, especially at entry points close to the border of neighbouring countries.
"Apart from beefing up security at all entry points, the enforcement agencies work closely with a network of security forces form neighbour countries along Malaysian waters and international waters," said the ministry.
