Act 355 rally: KDN will not object if DBKL approves - DPM

The Home Ministry (KDN) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have no objection for the Act 355 rally to be held on Saturday as it has already been approved by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

In fact, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said the DBKL had also given its approval for the rally to be held at Padang Merbok.

"Both KDN and PDRM have no objection if the local authority approves and allows (the participants to) use of public transportation," he told a press conference after chairing the round table dialogue with foreign workers-related industry players here on Thursday.

Yesterday, PAS was reported to have announced that approximately 200,000 people would attend the rally in support of the proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355).

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang brought forth the motion on his Private Member's Bill to amend Act 355, with the aim to empower Syariah Courts, at the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Nov 24, last year.

On the request from Dego Ride for an approval to continue its motorcycle ride-hailing service, the deputy prime minister said the Cabinet, during its meeting yesterday, had decided not to approve the service due to several factors as stated by the Transport Ministry.

"We feel that the existing (public transport) system is adequate to meet the demands of passengers in the Klang Valley, especially in Kuala Lumpur," he said.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai had earlier ordered the Dego Ride service to stop immediately because of safety factors.
