Selangor should figure out how to solve the problem of garbage disposal and dengue.
The Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672), if applied in Selangor, can help the local authorities and state government reduce dengue cases.
Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said poor waste disposal system and the inability of the local authorities to manage garbage well were among the causes of widespread dengue cases in the state.
"As much as RM1.3 billion is allocated for the collection and disposal of waste in the states that adopted Act 672, excluding Selangor.
"We hope Selangor can figure out how to solve the problem of garbage disposal and dengue," he said at a press conference after the launch of the Comprehensive Action Plan for Solid Waste Management 2015-2020 of the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (PPSPPA), here, on Thursday.
Act 672 came into force on Sept 1, 2011 and so far only Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Kedah and Perlis agreed to adopt the act.
