Additional garbage collection in Alor Setar during CNY
Garbage collection around the city will be increased starting February 2 to 9 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations to avoid a sudden increase in waste during the festive season.
Environment Idaman Sdn Bhd (Envi) Quality and Technical Audit Manager Bun Yin Ai An said, six units of 'armroll' and 'open tipper' garbage trucks would be provided, together with six drivers and 42 workers, to ensure the implementation of the additional schedule runs smoothly.
"Previously, the garbage collection was done twice a week, but during the Chinese New Year festive season, bulk garbage collection will be conducted on an ongoing basis for a week, involving 158 housing areas," he told reporters here today.
Bun Yin said, for the other areas, garbage collection would be conducted as usual. However any request for additional garbage collection, the public could contact Alor Setar Service Unit Manager, Ahmad Zikry Badrin at 019-2368026 or the toll-free number 1-800-88-7472.
He said normally, about 360 tonnes of domestic garbage were collected around Alor Setar and the amount increases to 30 per cent with the arrival of the festive season.
