Fish supply in the country including flood-hit states where fishermen could not go out to sea due to huge waves effected by the monsoon, is still adequate.
Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) chairman Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim assured the public that there was no need to panic as stocks of frozen fish were available.
"This includes 10 metric tons in Besut, Terengganu and 60 mt in Selayang, Selangor which would be distributed to farmers' markets nationwide at reasonable price," he told reporters after a fisheries programme at Tok Bali here, today.
However, he said, irresponsible 'middlemen' were still trying to manipulate the situation to their advantage by not supplying fish to wholesalers.
He also warned fishery entrpreneurs to abide by the ban imposed earlier on exporting fish during the monsoon season, aimed at ensuring adequate supply.
LKIM and the relevant agencies were constantly monitoring the situation and action would be taken against errant entrepreneurs including terminating their licence," he said. - BERNAMA
