AES linked summonses to be reviewed
The Attorney-General's (AG) Chambers said it has decided to look into matters pertaining to summonses issued under the Automated Enforcement System (AES).
The move was in view of the concerns raised by certain quarters on the law and other technicalities, Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail said in a statement Tuesday.
He said all related court proceedings were to be withheld until the concerns were addressed.
"A decision will be made within the next few days on these issues," he said.
In respect of four summons cases that had been discharged not amounting to an acquittal, Abdul Gani said the cases would be restudied and reregistered if any prosecution was warranted.
It was reported that more than 10,000 motorists had settled their AES summonses out of the 274,000 issued since the system aimed at ensuring road safety was implemented on Sept 23.
