Since the implementation of the automated enforcement system (AES) on September 23, 2012, the government has spent a total of RM60,122,080 as service fee to two of its service providers.
A written reply by the Transport Ministry in Parliament, that the government had paid a total of RM27,181,584 to ATES Sdn Bhd and RM32,940,496 to Beta Tegap Sdn Bhd.
As many as 2,144,921 traffic summonses meanwhile had been issued through the system until September, 2015 for speeding and beating the red light.
In a question by Khalid Abdul Samad (Amanah-Shah Alam), he had requested for the Transport Minister to state the total number of summonses issued using AES and to state the total payment made to the two AES service providers.
On Sunday, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said that the government will not stop the AES operation but rather review it to ensure a smooth execution by the beginning of next year.
He said the government wanted to ensure the AES implementation would go hand-in-hand with the demerit points system (Kejara).
