AG states reasons why Alvin and Vivian are not allowed bail

The Attorney General's Chamber has made an application that the couple Alvin Tan, 25, and Vivian Lee, who had mocked Muslims during Ramadan through their Facebook not to be released on bail awaiting trial.

Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail said the application was made as the pair have a tendency to upload contents that can arouse public outrage.

"We would like to call upon all parties to stop giving any statement or make any speculation on the case involving the couple Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee to avoid a trial by media," he said in a media statement.

Today the couple was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court under section 4 (1) (c) of the Sedition Act 1948.

In addition the couple were also charged under section 298A of the Penal Code for committing acts likely to cause feelings of enmity on grounds of religion between people of different religions and under section 5 (2) of the Film Censorship Act 2002 for acts exhibiting pornography.
