Agenda AWANI: 'Improve public transportation network for backpackers'

As the country’s tourism industry continues to expand each year, there are still certain sectors which the government should pay more attention to in garnering more tourists for Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

In Agenda AWANI’s discussion held yesterday, Director of PODs Backpackers Home, Muhammad Faithullah Harun urged the government to improve the public transportation network as it is seen as a way to boost the country’s tourism industry.

He added, besides the general tourists who came to Malaysia, another large portion is backpackers, who according to him, spend more money in Malaysia as they stay in the country longer compared to other tourists.

According to him, there is a need to have specially designed trips or tour packages for backpackers as currently carried out by several European countries.
